About me
Hi
I’m Francis Bacon (not this Francis Bacon or that Francis Bacon).
I help organisations become more effective by delivering better services. I enjoy bringing my service, product and technology expertise to help people find a clear path through complexity.
I’m currently a Director at Public Digital, a transformation consultancy. I’ve led some of our work with large UK public bodies including the Home Office, the Infected Blood Compensation Authority and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). I’ve also helped Open University, University of Exeter and Unicef UK.
Prior to joining Public Digital, I led transformation at the charity Samaritans, where I built digital capability and practices and developed high-profile services, including support services for people struggling to cope. I built a team and improved performance by working collaboratively and in the open with thousands of volunteers across 200 branches in the UK and Republic of Ireland.
And before that I had a squiggly path:
- I was digital manager at the Royal Society - where I led website, intranet, CRM and social
- I co-founded a startup in the conferencing industry
- I led teams developing subscription websites for local authorities and housing associations
- I campaigned for open data in international development
- I was a developer at IBM
I have an MBA from Cranfield University, a masters in Development Studies from SOAS and a physics degree from Oxford University.
